Known for their rich cultural legacies and tradition of academic excellence, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have much to offer students of all backgrounds. HBCUs have taken the next step in creating equal access to higher education by going online.

Here are some Historically Black Colleges and Universities that offer an online MBA:

Howard University Long considered the gold standard among historically black colleges, Howard University offers an executive online MBA program for students with more than seven years of professional experience, and at least five years in a management role. The AACSB-accredited program located in Washington D.C. requires 42 credit hours. The base program cost is 62,500 including a $500 application fee. Applicants are required to have at least a 3.0 undergraduate GPA. The GMAT is not required, but strongly encouraged.

Fayetteville State University This historically black college located in North Carolina offers an AACSB-accredited online MBA that requires 36 credit hours, plus 18 hours of introductory courses for students without a business undergraduate degree. Students can choose from concentrations in management, marketing, international business, finance, healthcare management, or entrepreneurship. Tuition is $147.43 for North Carolina residents and $668.58 per credit hour for out-of-state students. The GMAT is required to be considered for admission.

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (Florida A&M) Located in Tallahassee, Florida A&M is the only historically black university in the 11-school State University System of Florida. A&M’s online MBA program offers students the opportunity to work in cohorts and complete the program in 16-18 months. The program requires 44 credit hours over four semesters. The curriculum mirrors the on-campus program, but is adapted to a slightly longer format. Students can choose from concentrations in accounting, marketing, information systems, finance and supply chain management. Admission requirements include a minimum upper division GPA of 3.00 and at least 1100 points in the following formula: last 60 hours of BS degree GPA x 200 GMAT score. The base program cost is $34,850 or $792 per credit hour.

Jackson State University This AACSB-accredited program is offered entirely online and requires 30 credit hours. Students take two classes per eight-week session. Tuition is $650 per credit hour. Successful applicants should have an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or higher and submit the results of the GMAT.

Texas A&M Prairie View Founded in 1876, Prairie View A&M is Texas’ second oldest university. The AACSB-accredited online MBA can be completed entirely online, and requires 36 credit hours. The program offers concentrations in accounting, finance, international business, and management information systems. The base program cost is $10,692, or $297 per credit hour. Students do not need prior professional work experience to apply to the program and they are not required to submit GMAT test scores for admission, but they are expected to take the test before completing 12 hours.
