What Online MBA Schools Are Accredited?

Now that you understand the importance of accreditation, both general and AACSB, you will probably notice that there are many fully accredited, quality online MBA programs in the United States. Online MBA programs are accredited through self-evaluation by school administrators and peer evaluation by an accreditation agency. Quality online MBA programs can be offered through a variety of means. Some entail only distance course work, while others are mixed, consisting of a balance of online and on-campus class time. Many accredited online MBA programs are provided by brick and mortar universities. These programs will hold the same institutional accreditation as their traditional counterparts, and they may be additionally accredited by a programmatic accrediting agency specializing in business, such as the AACSB. For example, Indiana University offers an online MBA program through its Kelley School of Business. Indiana University is regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, one of the six main accreditation bodies in the United States. The Kelley School of Business has also received programmatic accreditation from the AACSB.

All quality online MBA programs will have been accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. Accrediting agencies take into account distance programs as part of a traditional university’s entire academic program, so the quality of online MBA programs will have been considered before accreditation was awarded. Students can rest assured that an online MBA program from an accredited school will hold itself to common standards of educational quality.
