Introduction

Entering its third cohort of business students, the MBA@UNC program is the generally accepted as one of the only top-tier business schools with an online degree program. Annually cracking the top 20 of both domestic and international best business schools lists, the Kenan-Flagler business school’s online MBA program now reaches students globally.

Accreditation

The Kenan-Flagler business school is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a distinction given to only about 5% of the world’s business schools.

Academics

The MBA@UNC’s hybrid approach delivers a general 66-credit MBA degree and is a combination of asynchronous, live, face-to-face class sessions and three-day “global immersions” each quarter to educate students.

Students through their two-plus years are invited to four MBA@UNC global immersions held at various locations around the world. They are encouraged to attend all four immersions; however, students are only required to attend two during the course of the program. The cost of lodging and food for four immersions is included in the MBA@UNC tuition.

Admission

Adults applying to the MBA@UNC program must have at least an undergraduate degree. Applicants must also have basic business knowledge. Students must have an understanding of basic accounting, statistics, finance and economics principles and need to be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

The first component of admissions into the program is the type of previous work experience a potential student brings. Students are required to have at least two years post-undergraduate real-world experience, but emphasis is placed on the applicant’s role in his other company, the quality of the work experience, and the diversity in the role he/she played in the company.

Other admissions requirements include:

  • Three essays
  • Three professional recommendations
  • GMAT or GRE scores
  • $140 non-refundable application fee

An interview is required for admission into the MBA@UNC. After the admissions staff receives an application, they’ll contact students to set up a personal interview. Interviews will be conducted in English via videoconference using a basic webcam, which is integrated into most laptop computers. Students will only be invited to this step in the application process after the admissions staff has received transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate coursework. Applications can be completed online.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for students starting in July 2012 and after is $91,225. MBA@UNC tuition is all-inclusive and includes books, texts, and student fees for the entire program. The cost of lodging and food for four immersions is also included in tuition. Students are required to attend at least two weekend immersions, but may attend up to four without incurring additional cost.

Tuition is charged on a per credit hour basis and charges can vary from term to term depending on a student’s course enrollment. Admitted students must submit a $1,500 non-refundable enrollment deposit to reserve a space in the class. Enrollment deposits will be applied as a credit toward the first quarter’s tuition if the student enrolls in the program.
