Green Mountain College has a long-standing history of strong teacher-student relationships since its inception in 1834. The colleges’s programs are founded on a liberal arts background with a heavy emphasis on the environment. Stemming from this, the Green MBA program, one of the first of its kind, was created and offered to students. Since then, Green Mountain has adjusted its MBA program to make it possible for students to complete the entire program online.
In keeping with the mindset of innovation and creativity, Green Mountain College seeks to promote creative and experimental learning methods. This is encouraged through internships, service-oriented learning opportunities, and studying abroad—all of which are available to online students. Students are prepared to be productive, caring, and responsible members of a global workforce. Diversity is highly valued at Green Mountain College as the students entering the programs have unique backgrounds with individual goals and learning styles.
Green Mountain College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education to award degrees to graduating students. The institution is also a member of the Association of Vermont Independent Colleges.
. The Sustainable MBA program from Green Mountain College is 100% online. Green Mountain has fifteen years of experience teaching students sustainability in a traditional and non-traditional format and has repeatedly been recognized for its mission to promote environmental education at a higher degree level. The Princeton Review featured Green Mountain in their 2011 Guide to the “Top 311 Green Colleges” as well as their “322 Green Colleges” the following year. The Green MBA program specifically has been available to students since 2006.
The online Sustainable MBA program consists of 37 credits total, each course lasting six weeks. The average class size is between 10-18 students, giving each of them a chance to receive a high level of personalized attention during the program. Without taking time off for breaks, a student can feasibly complete the entire degree program in 21 months. Not only do students receive one of the most unique MBA degrees available on the education market, but they will benefit from the diversity within the group discussions and the experience and knowledge of qualified professors. Although the entire degree is technically completed online, MBA students will be required to participate in two brief residencies on-campus to complete their course-specific material.
Admission to Green Mountain College is completed in three simple steps.
Students must have a minimum of 3 years of work experience and a bachelor’s degree with a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher. If they meet these standards, applicants can contact an Admissions Advisor to get the process started. The final step is to submit the following materials to the admissions office:
- A completed application
- All official transcripts from previously attended higher education institutions to prove completion of the bachelor’s degree and any other college-level course work
- Three letters of recommendation from qualified sources other than relatives who can attest to the students’ background and character.
- A personal essay explaining why the student would like to pursue the Green Mountain MBA, how the advanced degree meets career goals, and how the student will manage their time and priorities during the course of the degree program
- Submit scores from the GMAT or another Assessment of Quantitative Skills
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition costs for the Sustainable MBA program offered by Green Mountain College are $795 per credit hour. Given the program requires 37 credit hours total, the base cost of the program comes to $29,415, excluding the cost of textbooks, and travel accommodations for the brief residencies.
Federal aid is only available in the form of federal loans (either subsidized or unsubsidized) and is awarded on the basis of need. Students wishing to apply for federal loans or financial aid must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student aid to determine how much they are eligible to receive.
