Introduction

Mississippi State University was founded in 1878 under the name The Agricultural and Mechanical College of the State of Mississippi. The university was one of the many U.S. colleges created as a result of the Morrill Land-Grant Act of 1862. Mississippi State is dedicated to providing an education centered around learning, research and service. The university currently offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees. Mississippi State also provides an online MBA program. Suited for working adults, students in the MBA program are able to determine their own course load and can work on a flexible schedule.

Accreditation

Mississippi State University has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges since 1926. Academics

Mississippi State offers an MBA program with two distinct paths. Students can choose to study a general MBA, which covers a broad range of business theory, or they can pursue an MBA in Project Management, which specializes in management techniques. Core courses for the Master of Business Administration degree include Economics for Managers, Corporate Finance, Leadership Skills, Human Resource Issues, Strategic Marketing Management, Information Technology and Systems, and Law, Ethics, and Dispute Resolution. Core courses for the MBA in Project Management include Quantitative Analysis and Business Research, Management Accounting, Human Resource Issues, and Management of Information Technology and Systems.

Student Life

Students in the online MBA program at Mississippi State have the freedom to participate in classes on a flexible schedule. Working adults are able to access course materials at any time from anywhere. Students interact with professors and classmates via email and live chat. Additionally, students can choose their own course loads and can take from two to eight years to finish their degree. Most courses are offered in eight-week terms, two to three times per year.

Admission

To apply to the MBA program at Mississippi State, students must submit a completed online application, a $40 application fee, one statement of purpose, three letters of recommendation, a professional resume, GMAT scores and two official transcripts from each undergraduate university attended. College Navigator reports an acceptance rate of 55 percent for undergraduate applicants.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for an MBA degree at Mississippi State is $572 per credit hour. The program consists of at least 30 required credits, so students will pay a total of at least $17,160. Students may have to pay for prerequisite courses, if needed, and must also factor in the cost of books and other small fees. All students can apply for financial aid by filling out a FAFSA.
