Introduction

The Missouri Southern State University online MBA program is provided in conjunction with Northwest Missouri State University. Both schools are public institutions, the Missouri Coordinating Board of Higher Education, determines which schools can offer which degrees. Since MSSU and Northwest Missouri, are similar sizes, the two pooled resources to create the joint MBA online program.

Taught by faculty from each university, the online MBA program is designed to be completed in two years. Students choose from four courses offered each fall and spring, and three courses offered each summer. Graduates then receive a degree which lists both Northwest Missouri State University and Missouri Southern State University on the diploma.

Students enrolled in the joint program range in age from 22-51, with a median of 32. A large number of them have petitioned for a waiver of the GMAT exam based upon their years of managerial experience, with approximately 70% with five-plus years of managerial experience.

Accreditation

MSSU’s business school is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Regionally, the school is accredited by the North Central Association.

Academics

The general MBA degree program requires 33 hours for graduation. Of those 33 credits, 21 are required courses, and 12 are elective courses.

Admission

The GMAT is required. The minimum required score is 440; an average score is about 490. The program will also accept a GRE score. The minimum acceptable score on the GRE is 143 for the verbal portion and 142 on the quantitative portion. As noted above, students may also petition for a waiver of the exam based upon years of managerial experience. In addition, students who took a major field achievement test (MFT) in business and scored at or above the 70th percentile may receive a waiver of the GMAT/GRE score. Undergraduate transcripts from an accredited college or university are also required. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better – 3.18 is the average incoming undergrad GPA for MBA students currently in the program.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for the joint MBA is determined by Northwest Missouri. The cost as of August 2012, $596.54 for out-of-state students. The base program cost is $19,686, excluding fees, textbooks, and the cost of additional credits beyond the minimum of 33 credit hours. Missouri residents would pay less for the online MBA.

Northwest awards and/or administers many types of financial aid from federal, state, University and private sources. Federal loan programs are options for U.S. citizens and legal residents. Private education loan programs are options for all applicants, including international students. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid and the Financial Aid Data forms are required to determine eligibility.
