Introduction

Oakland City University was founded in 1885 when the Educational Board of General Baptists gained a charter from the state of Indiana to begin operating an Oakland City college. In 1891, their doors opened for the first classes. Today, OCU has expanded its academic tradition and resources to be available online, including associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees.

Accreditation

The Oakland City University received full accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS) in April of 1977 then was fully accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) just four years later. OCU’s School of Business received specific accreditation by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

Academics

Oakland City University has identified the critical need of capable, professional, and intelligent individuals in the business world. Under such knowledge, they designed their MBA program specifically for the purpose of equipping their students to become professionals in their various industries and achieve success. This applies to all positions, whether it be upper level executive, or managerial.

The program teaches practical application of managerial and administrative concepts and strategies that will enhance, improve, support, and sustain every aspect of business operations. Because the business world is ever changing, the program teaches policies and practices that can adapt to whatever circumstances arise. This includes learning the best practices, international and domestic financial policies, communication skills (including organization, presentation, and style), and many other facets that address the corporate world.

The 36 credit hours required for the MBA program can be obtained in as few as 18 months, or over an extended period of time as so desired by the student. The system in place for students completing their degree online allows them to attend their courses, finish assignments, and network with classmates and faculty all online at a pace that fits the individual’s needs and learning style.

Admission

The Oakland City University Admits Graduate Degree seeking students under the following conditions:
• Students must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale from an approved, and accredited institution

• Must have relevant work experience and/or courses in accounting, finance, and statistics that were successfully completed
For the Online Admissions Process students must also do the following:

Tuition and Financial Aid

According to Oakland City University’s website, the total tuition for obtaining an MBA online is $16,740, which breaks down to about $465 per credit hour. Additional fees may apply for use of online technology and more. Regardless of the payment method, OCU requires students to submit their tuition prior to class starting the first day of each term.

The staff at OCU provide financial support for each individual student in order to help them achieve their education goals in the most affordable way possible. Although OCU primarily works through Federal Grants (FAFSA), there are grants and scholarships also available including scholarships based on academics, athletic achievement, military, and religious background.
