Introduction

Founded in 1950 as Central Christian College, Oklahoma Christian University has grown to more than 2,000 students. While affiliated with the Church of Christ, the university is open to all students who respect its commitment to academics and spirituality. The Oklahoma City-based school offers a flexible online MBA with no on-campus requirements beyond orientation.

Oklahoma Christian has 250 MBA students, of which 83 are enrolled in the online MBA program. The average age of students is 32 and includes full-time professionals and recent college graduates, though it is geared toward working adults. Online classes are capped at 20 students per course. The online program was launched in 2008, though the school’s MBA program was launched in 2000.

Accreditation

Oklahoma Christian University holds institutional accreditation from the the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The university’s business programs are accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Academics

Oklahoma Christian’s MBA focuses on ethics, practical knowledge and real-world applications. Core courses include ethics, economics, finance, global perspectives, leadership, management, marketing, organizational issues and technology. The Oklahoma Christian approach to business ethics includes the incorporation of New Testament scripture into discussion.

The Oklahoma Christian online MBA allows students to specialize in one of eight fields through elective courses in accounting, leadership and organizational development, electronic business, project management, health services management, financial services, international business and marketing. A new track centered on human resources management is expected to be introduced in summer 2012.

As part of its program, the school requires students to undertake at least one proctored exam or project at a designated location. Students from outside Oklahoma can arrange a suitable alternative with the MBA program department. An Apple laptop is included in the cost of tuition.

Admission

Individuals applying for a spot in Oklahoma Christian University’s online MBA program will need to possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university to be eligible. Students without an undergraduate degree in business may need to take foundation courses, which are available online, to enter the program. New candidates are admitted in the fall, spring and summer semesters.

Applicants will also need to submit:

  • Completed online application and $25 fee
  • GMAT score of at least 450, 3.0 on the written portion; GRE of at least 285, 3.0 on the written portion. The GMAT or GRE can be waived if the online MBA candidate meets one of the following:
    • 3.25 cumulative undergrad GPA
    • 3.0 cumulative undergrad GPA w/ five years of work experience
    • Nine hours of previously completed graduate work with minimum “B” grades from an accredited institution
  • Transcripts from previous colleges attended
  • Three letters of reference from professors, employers or someone who supports you in your decision to earn your master’s degree
  • Current resume detailing work history

Individual interviews may need to be scheduled with program evaluation personnel after all application materials have been submitted.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for the Graduate School of Business is $460 per credit hour. The MBA degree program is made up of 36 hours. The base program cost is $16,560, which does not include additional fees and textbooks. Fees include a $25 application fee, the $50 graduation fee and a $30 per credit hour technology fee for all online courses. Textbook costs vary, but run an average of $2,100 for the program. Some students may need to take four foundation courses, which cost $1,350 each, before entering the program. Financial aid may also be available for students who qualify.
