Introduction

During the 18th century, a religious order from Lorraine, France called for the founding of a college for women. Our Lady of the Lake University was founded in 1895 by the Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Providence in San Antonio, Texas. Until 1919, the school operated as a two year college before being accepted by the Texas Association of Colleges as a four year institution. The school offered their first graduate study programs in 1942 and allowed them to be coeducational, soon after all programs switched to coeducational. Throughout its history, it was the first San Antonio institution of higher learning and the third Texas school to be approved by the American Association of Universities. The school currently offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs. It operates mainly in San Antonio but has remote campuses in Houston and Harlingen as well as online programs.

Inspired by its religious foundations, the university is committed to serving each student. Students will enjoy quality and innovative learning experiences that will foster their spiritual, personal, and professional goals. Upon graduating from Our Lady of the Lake University, students will be prepared for success and continued service in their communities.
