Introduction

Dedicated to Christian values and a high standard of academic excellence and success, Pepperdine University is a place that strengthens and prepares students for lives of service, leadership, and purpose. The vision of Pepperdine is to become a global, preeminent, Christian university that is identified by its integration of faith and learning, whose graduates enter the world prepared to lead purposeful lives as strong leaders with a heart towards service. The first president of the university, George Pepperdine, had a vision to start a higher education institution that would transform students’ lives to impact the culture around them.

The university is focused on meeting five strategic goals: advancing learning, knowledge, and scholarship; developing resources; building community; respecting diversity and promoting global understanding; and honoring God and heritage. The progress in meeting these goals is determined by the success of the academics, students, and reputation. In keeping with their goal of advancing learning, developing resources, and promoting global understanding, Pepperdine announced the addition of an online version of their MBA program for the working professionals.

Accreditation

Pepperdine University is regionally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and has received specialized accreditation for their business school (Graziadio School) by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) to award their MBA degrees and other business degrees.

Academics

Working professionals who are interested in advancing their career and education with an MBA degree can apply to Pepperdine University for enrollment in the new online program. Pepperdine is accepting applications for January 2013, which is when the first class will start. Students pursuing the MBA program online will receive a fully accredited Master’s of Business Administration degree from a business school that has more than 40 years of experience in providing an education focused on responsible business practice. The program is built around core values, is globally focused, and infused with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Motivated students can complete the entire online MBA program in as little as six semesters – or two years – with a 12-unit concentration in finance, marketing, or leadership. The curriculum is made up of 52 semester units of course work online. The program creates a solid foundation of current management and business theory and practice, gives an in-depth understanding of the impacts of globalization, competition, ethics, and technological innovation in the workplace. Most of the class assignments will require continuous application of newly learned knowledge and skills in the students’ professional lives to cement the education.

Admission

Students interested in enrolling in Pepperdine University’s online MBA degree program must have previously acquired a bachelor’s degree with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA), an acceptable GMAT or GRE score, and at least two years of professional work experience to be considered for admission.

Although the exact details for admission requirements have yet to be posted on Pepperdine’s website, the MBA programs generally include a requirement for official transcripts and personal recommendations (from the student’s supervisor or qualified individual who can assess your ability to complete graduate level course work) along with the application for admission. The applications usually require essays, an organization chart, and a resume.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Pepperdine University charges tuition based on per-unit pricing. Tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year for the fully-employed MBA program is $1,476. Pepperdine lists the base program cost for a two year completion of the MBA program at approximately $76,752.

Pepperdine recommends students investigate financial aid opportunities such as scholarships, company reimbursement, payment plans, veterans’ benefits, and federal grants. The Graziadio School offers merit-based scholarships to eligible students for cumulative GPA, GMAT or GRE score, and professional work experience. These are awarded at the time of admittance to the program. In addition, the government provides three primary types of financial aid to students: Federal Direct Stafford loans, Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan, and alternative educational loans.

Students interested in company reimbursement should check with their human resources to determine whether or not the company they work for provides any funding to cover employee educational costs. Otherwise, the Graziadio School gives students three options for payment plans to spread out the cost of tuition over time: single payment, two payment, and three payment options per trimester. This can be especially beneficial to working adults who might have additional financial obligations, such as a family. Whatever financial aid options apply to the student, Pepperdine is committed to finding a reasonable solution to tuition costs and aiding students in achieving their academic goals.
