Founded in 1869, Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a public university that offers undergraduate and graduate-level degrees. The campus is home to eight colleges of study, as well as a law and medical school. U.S. News and World Report ranks the university’s College of Business as one of the top 100 public business colleges in the country. Students who are interested in earning a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale have the option to attend classes solely on campus or solely online, or they can mix campus-based courses with online courses.
Southern Illinois University Carbondale is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, an independent corporation that is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). The NCA was founded in 1895 and is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s College of Business, including its MBA program, is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International, an organization that has been working to advance business and management education around the world since 1916.
The SIUC Online MBA program has been built to suit the needs of students who are interested in earning their degree through a complete distance-learning program. Students who are accepted to the online MBA program at SIUC must complete 15 technical core courses, as well as one managerial core course per semester. Students also must use online networking tools to collaborate with their peers. They must also attend an annual online fall orientation to meet the faculty and staff who will be teaching and working with them that year.
At the end of the online MBA program, students are required to complete a foreign study/immersion experience. Students may complete this requirement by participating in an overseas immersion experience or by taking an additional online course. The overseas immersion experience includes additional fees.
The GMAT or GRE requirement is waived for students who have five or more years of professional work experience, but the following listed items are required from all applicants:
- Resume and personal statement sent to the College of Business
- Completed graduate school application
- Three letters of recommendation
- Transcripts from all institutions where you have completed coursework
- Application fee of $50

Tuition and Financial Aid
Students who are in need of financial aid should contact the SIUC Office of Financial Aid for information about available scholarships or fellowship programs for graduate students. In order to increase your chances of receiving a federal student loan, it is best to complete and submit your FAFSA when you apply for the online MBA program. Online students are not charged the on-campus student fee for the Student Center or Recreation Center, and they are not eligible for the Student Medical Benefit.
