Pennsylvania has many good business programs. The Fox Business School at Philadelphia’s Temple University is working hard to stand apart from the pack with its online MBA program. A large portion of the two-year program is conducted with Cisco’s WebEx Web conferencing software in the form of synchronous live classes held once a week.
WebEx allows students to get as close to a real classroom experience as possible from a remote location. Live streaming video lectures and VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) connect students to the learning experience in ways not currently offered by some other online and distance MBA programs. Participants can raise their hands, ask questions, chat with the professor and other students, and experience a uniquely comprehensive business education all within the framework of the WebEx model. In addition to WebEx, the Fox Online MBA uses Blackboard for posting lectures, assignments, grades and additional discussion topics.
The style seems to have appealed to a slightly older demographic, with the average student in the program having 11 to 12 years of work experience.
Temple’s business school is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a distinction given to only about 5% of the world’s business schools.
The program consists of five-week sections in the fall, spring and summer throughout the two-year program, with students taking one course at a time. Students will also complete two seven-day residencies at the beginning and middle of the program during which course work, team building exercises, technology and special guest lectures will be the focus. The third and final residency (two days) at the conclusion of the program will involve project presentations and graduation.
The GMAT may be waived based on a candidate’s years and type of professional experience. If an applicant does not meet the requisite years of professional experience, he or she will be asked to submit GMAT scores. At least three years of professional experience is required for the program.
Other admissions requirements include:
- Completed application
- A nonrefundable $60 application fee
- Two letters of recommendation
- College transcripts (degree and non-degree)
- Admissions interview
Tuition and Financial Aid
The total two-year program fee for the class that entered in the fall of 2012 was $62,208.
