Tennessee Technological University (TTU) has been providing education in engineering and the sciences to students in the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee for nearly a century. Offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees, this four-year public institution places its learning emphasis on research, creativity and service within the community. TTU’s College of Business’ online MBA program instills knowledge, ethics, critical thinking and problem solving aptitude and communication skills in its students. The degree requires a total of 30 hours: 21 hours for common courses at three hours a credit, and nine credit hours of electives. Many full-time students complete all 30 hours within one calendar year. Common courses required of all MBA students are Accounting Information for Management Decisions; Financial Management; Analytical Decision Making; Strategic Marketing; Organizational Leadership; Management of Information Technology; and Business Strategy. Courses for Accounting and Risk Management and Insurance majors are offered only online.
Most classes are offered on the Internet and on-campus. Lectures are available on CD-ROM for students to review at any time during the program. Through an Internet-based class management program called iLearn, students have access to course e-mails, calendars, threaded discussions, chat rooms, and links to quizzes and tests.
For acceptance into TTU’s business program, applicants must meet standard undergraduate GPA and GMAT score requirements. Prospective students must also meet computer proficiency requirements. Students who did not earn an undergraduate business degree must take core business courses in accounting, finance and marketing via self-studying CDs called Pre-MBA Foundation Modules.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Students must take a minimum of six credit hours a semester to qualify for financial aid. In-state total tuition is $542 per credit hour, and $1,190 per credit hour for out-of-state students. Applicants who must complete Pre-MBA Foundation Modules must pay $375 per topic. Graduate assistantships and scholarships are offered. African-American students are eligible for a $10,000 stipend through the Geier Fellowship.
