The University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth (UMass-Dartmouth) is one of five state campuses within the university system. Although UMass was founded in 1895, UMass-Dartmouth wasn’t officially created until 1992. In an effort to make its MBA programs more cohesive and relevant, UMass-Dartmouth’s MBA program received a major facelift in 2007. To help continue its mission of excellence, students are now required to create e-portfolios. These e-portfolios help keep track of the effectiveness of MBA learning objectives so they can be addressed and modified when needed.
The Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business (AACSB) accredits UMass Dartmouth’s Charlton College of Business and its MBA programs. MBA students who wish to transfer credits from another AACSB-accredited institution may do so with permission from the dean.
MBA students can choose from 10 set concentrations, four of which are offered online. However MBA students also have the option of designing their own concentration tailored to meet their specific needs. All students are required to take the following business foundation courses before choosing a concentration: Financial Accounting, Economic Concepts for Managers, and Statistical Analysis. UMass Dartmouth’s online MBA can pave the way for an increased salary, a bigger promotion package, or simply increase employment opportunities in general.
To earn admission, applicants must have adequate GMAT scores (minimum 400), have a 3.0 GPA, and have two stellar letters of recommendation — one preferably from an employer, the other from a previous professor. That said, here is a checklist of other materials you need to apply:
- Completed graduate application form
- Application fee
- GMAT test scores (or an equivalent test)
- Statement of purpose (minimum 300 words)
- Official college transcripts
- International students: TOEFL score reports
Make sure to pay close attention to application deadlines so that you can submit all of the necessary materials on time.
Tuition and Financial Aid
UMass-Dartmouth’s tuition is about $12,000. Graduate students are not eligible to receive federal or state-funded grants; however low-interest loans may still be obtained if Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) qualifications are met. On occasion, UMass-Dartmouth also offers scholarships for graduate students, like the Chung Gong Wong Scholarship which is offered to students pursuing an online MBA program in international business. Of course, private scholarships are also available. Graduate students also have the option of enrolling in an assistance program — a work-study type program that gives students a stipend for doing administrative work, teaching, or doing research.
