In 2006, University of Baltimore’s Merrick School of Business teamed up with Towson University’s College of Business and Economics to create one of the most career-oriented and case driven MBA programs in the United States. UB/Towson’s MBA program prides itself on its flexibility, giving students the choice to take as many classes online or on campus as is convenient.

UB has been accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education since 1971. Both UB and Towson University have been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) since 1978 and 1992 respectively. Accreditation from AACSB International has been awarded to only one-third of the business schools in the world, making UB/Towson an institution adherent to the highest standards in business education.

At UB/Towson, MBA candidates can choose from nine specializations and four dual degree programs. Specializations include:

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Finance
  • Health Care Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • International Business
  • Leadership and Organizational Learning
  • Management Information Systems
  • Marketing
  • General MBA (also known as the Customized Specialization Option)

Dual degree programs are available for students looking to earn their MBA in concurrence with a JD, a master of science or Ph.D. in nursing, or a PharmD. Curriculum is based on 18 credits of fundamental courses (which can be waived depending on a student’s undergraduate studies), 24 credits of integrated core courses and 12 credits of electives.

Student Life

Students are encouraged to take part in study abroad trips. In teams of five or six students, MBA candidates are given projects that exercise their critical thinking, decision making and analytical skills. Online students also have the option of taking evening classes at either UB or Towson’s campuses and have the benefit of learning from both universities’ experienced faculty members.

To be considered for admission, applicants must submit an online application, GMAT scores (which can be waived in some instances), official postsecondary transcripts, two sealed recommendation letters, a resume and a 1,000-word personal statement. The school recommends attending an Online Information Webinar on the school’s website.

Tuition and Financial Aid

In-state tuition is $645 per credit and for out-of-state residents, it’s $900 per credit. An additional $50 per credit hour fee is applied for Web classes. Financial aid is available pending the student’s annual FAFSA filing. Students must be enrolled part time with at least six credits per semester to be eligible for aid. Most UB/Towson MBA students finance their education through federal Stafford loans.

Why University of Baltimore?

UB/Towson MBA candidates have the unique benefit of receiving a quality education from two institutions. UB/Towson’s curriculum allows students to examine case studies to find solutions, make decisions and apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real world scenarios. Students in the Baltimore area have the added advantage of being able to attend classes at either campus as well as taking classes online. Students earning degrees in other disciplines such as law, nursing and pharmacy are eligible for a dual degree through the MBA program, allowing them to be trained in all business aspects of their field. UB/Towson encourages participation, giving students an interactive, communicative experience that enables them to think creatively, critically and responsibly.
