The University of Mary has a goal with their Master of Business Administration (MBA) program to aid their students in developing the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary in order to excel in the midst of an ever-changing business world. Given the importance of work and family, UMary has structured their MBA program around the working student.
Taking a unique approach to learning, UMary teams students up with a group of adult student peers throughout the degree process to encourage and develop a strong support system, diverse work teams, and life-long friendships. If at any time the student wishes to switch from online to on-site or vice-versa, they are allowed to do so. This is sometimes the case with students who either require the classroom environment in order to study effectively, or with students who have to move out of range of the college campus and desire to continue their degree through distance learning.
The International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) has accredited 18 of University of Mary’s degrees, including four MBA programs. These accreditations are specialized for each of the degrees.
The University of Mary provides a completely online option for obtaining an MBA and offers four different specializations for each MBA program: accountancy, executive, health care, human resource management, and management. With the accelerated format of study, students can work and still obtain a degree in as few as 18 months. The classes are all taught in the style of a seminar, which gives students opportunity for participation and discussion as well as instant application in the workplace environment.
UMary intentionally limits the size of classes in order to ensure a higher level if interaction between students and faculty, while also maintaining high academic standards consistent with its values and practices. In general, the University of Mary aims to have all MBA program participants complete the degree with the following abilities:
• Create organizational structures to optimize maximum capabilities for resources of an organization
• Justify the formulation of effective business procedures and processes
• Evaluate the impact for global and domestic forces by using a strategic process for the master’s business program
• Asses issues of ethics, integrate frameworks and Benedictine values into business leadership practices
• Incorporate financial analysis in evaluations and decision making processes
• Make recommendations for appropriate courses of action based on quantitative techniques and theories.
Following the completion of at least six semester credits of grade, students will be evaluated on their academic progress to determine whether or not they will be considered eligible for candidacy status based on a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0, acceptable academic, professional, and personal conduct and behavior, as well as an approved program of study.
University of Mary requires all graduate degree seeking students who apply for admission to have obtained a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited university or college in the United States or from an international institution approved by the country’s Ministry of Education. In addition, the applicant must provide an official transcript from their former school.
International students must meet the criterion listed above, but must also show evidence they have the ability to pay all the costs for the duration of the program via a financial statement form provided on the university’s website. Furthermore, international students will be required to take The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if their native language is not English, and must score a minimum of 80 on the internet-based exam. Scores older than two years will not be accepted.
