Introduction

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, a four-year institution in Odessa, Texas, is a member of the esteemed University of Texas System. The Permian Basin campus is ranked No. 71 among National Universities and No. 26 among Top Public Schools by U.S. News & World Report, and has also received recognition for its online graduate business programs. While the university offers traditional bachelor’s and master’s degrees, it also offers graduate-level distance learning programs, including an online MBA. UT – Permian Basin offers one of the most unique online MBA programs in Texas because it is offered by a consortium of eight universities in the UT System.

Accreditation

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges. The university has maintained this accreditation since 1975. The university’s School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

Academics

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin online MBA can be completed fully online in an asynchronous format, meaning students and faculty do not have to be online at the same time and can log in to their courses at a time of day that works best for them. This is ideal for students who cannot commute to the Odessa campus due to work constraints. Students have the option of either completing a general degree in management or selecting an emphasis in finance.

To complete the UT – Permian Basin online MBA, students must complete 48 credits. Eighteen of these credits consist of core courses, which include: Accounting for Managers, Business Economics, Management and Organizational Behavior, Quantitative Analysis in Business, Marketing Management, and Financial Management. Students then take 21 credits of other courses, including Market Research, Information Systems for Managers, Legal Environment of Business, and more. Finally, students take nine credits of major courses, which will encompass either general management courses or finance courses, depending on the student’s specialization.

Admission

UT – Permian Basin’s online MBA program is open to students who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, and who meet the following requirements:

  • Official transcripts of all college course work showing strong academic performance during the last two years of their undergraduate work
  • Satisfactory score on the GMAT
  • Computer and statistical literacy (students will only be admitted provisionally if they are deficient in these areas)

Students applying for graduate admissions will need to submit a completed application no less than 60 days before registration.
