Established in 1910, West Texas A&M University is a member of the highly-regarded Texas A&M University System and had a fall 2012 student enrollment of 7,955. The university is ranked No. 72 among regional universities of the west, according to U.S News & World Report. The West Texas A&M University online MBA is one of the most flexible online MBA programs in Texas because it allows students to take their MBA courses fully online, in the classroom at the Canyon or Amarillo campuses, or in hybrid format (a blend of online and face-to-face courses). The online MBA is offered through the university’s College of Business, and the two-year program can take anywhere from 18 months to six years to complete depending on how quickly the student can progress through the program.

West Texas A&M University is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges. The university has maintained this accreditation since 1925. In addition, the College of Business has received accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

Students enrolled in the West Texas A&M online MBA program can take their courses in a regular 16-week format or a compressed 12-week format. This allows greater flexibility for working professionals who would like to move through their course work more quickly. Students will take a selection of courses representing 31-49 credit hours. One significant course for students will be the MBA portfolio course; this course allows students to effectively showcase the skills and knowledge they have obtained while attending the MBA program to current and future employers.

Other MBA courses are broken down into foundation and core course. Foundation courses are geared more toward students who do not have an undergraduate background in business administration; they are designed to make sure students are prepared for their core courses. Core courses include Accounting for Decision Making, Quantitative Analysis in Business, Information Technology Management, Seminar in Finance, Strategic Management, and more. In addition, students take a selection of specialization classes that line up with the student’s concentration, whether that be marketing, management, computer information systems, or another concentration.

Prospective students applying to West Texas A&M’s MBA program must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, possess an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate proficiency in foundational business courses, and submit the following:

  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • Official GMAT scores (unless the applicant possesses a master’s degree)
  • Recent resume showing career progression
  • Statement describing your career goals and how the MBA will help you meet them

Provisional acceptance may be granted to students who do not meet all of the above requirements. Students should apply by Aug. 1 for the fall semester, Dec. 1 for the spring semester, or May 1 for the summer semester, according to the program website.
