Alabama has a history of diverse industries operating in its state, from automotive to aerospace to agriculture, with continual growth increasing the demand for trained professionals in those areas. For starters, there are more than 300 automotive-related companies operating in the state alone – a 286% increase since 1991 – including Mercedes, Honda, Hyundai, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, and International Diesel. Aerospace is another major segment of the state’s economy, with hundreds of aerospace companies like Boeing, EADS North America, and Lockheed Martin creating more than 73,000 jobs for Alabamians. Additionally, biotechnology is a major employer of Alabamians, with more than 90 biotechnology-related companies either doing business or headquartered in the state. Other prominent sectors of the state’s economy include education, healthcare, banking, agriculture, and various heavy industries.

There are a number of online MBA programs in Alabama for students interested in entering Alabama’s varied workforce from a business administration perspective. Most of these programs offer students the opportunity to specialize in a specific area, too, so that they can further tailor and market their skills. For example, at Auburn University, one of the South’s largest universities, students can choose from six specializations in its online MBA program, including finance, marketing, management, information systems, supply chain, and business analytics. The University of North Alabama’s online MBA program also offers a number of different specializations, including accounting, finance, healthcare management, information systems, international business, and project management. The University of North Alabama is also expanding its online MBA options, offering a hybrid MBA program on the campus of Athens State University in Athens, Ala., beginning January 2013.
