Louisiana benefits from several industries, including petroleum refining, offshore oil production, natural gas, chemical production, agriculture, aerospace and aviation, ports, and commercial and freshwater fishing. Louisiana also benefits from a tourism industry that employs over 87,000 workers in the state. Tourism provides an estimated $5.2 billion each year. Louisiana handles more than 25% of the nation’s waterborne exports with more than 5,000 ocean-going ships calling at Louisiana ports each year. Approximately 200 foreign companies invest nearly $16 billion in Louisiana, ranking it ninth in the United States in foreign investment. Louisiana also hosts general manufacturing industries for the assembly of light trucks, the manufacture of electrical equipment, pharmaceuticals, glass products, automobile batteries, mobile homes, yachts, clothing, and weapons, as well as several other products.

While the state offers several traditional and hybrid MBA programs, and online business courses from its public and private institutions, the only institution currently offering a fully-online MBA degree program in Louisiana is the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Prospective MBA students may see further online MBA programs implemented in Louisiana as online education continues to gain popularity in the state.
