According to the Maine Compact for Higher Education, 59% of all jobs in Maine will require some postsecondary education by 2018. The Maine Compact also reports that Maine’s population of 15 to 24-year-olds is projected to decline by 20% over the next decade. For these reasons, Maine is promoting adult education programs through flexible, low-cost opportunities like online education and distance learning. Maine is adapting its academic services to allow for more distance learning opportunities and other flexible course formats. These include online business administration programs offered from several accredited institutions, both public and private.
The University of Maine System operates eight institutions in its university system and 20 private institutions. These institutions provide several distance learning opportunities in Maine through technologies including audio, video, and electronic text. While several of these institutions offer MBA programs in Maine, only Saint Joseph’s College of Maine offers an online MBA program. The Leadership Master of Business Administration at St. Joseph’s College of Maine focuses on statistical and systems thinking, management, and business dynamics.
