Tennessee is home to a predominantly Christian population. According to Gallup data, 72% of the state identifies as Protestant. Students looking to apply the same principles of their faith to their education will find plenty of options in the state, too, as Tennessee is home to several faith-based institutions that seek to assist in both the professional and spiritual growth of their students through a Christian-based education. Both public and private Christian universities and colleges that award online MBA programs in Tennessee include Bryan College, Free-Hardeman University, Bethel University, and Southern Adventist University. In addition to developing business, marketing, and finance skills, students at these institutions can also gain an understanding of ethical business principles from a Christian perspective, or devote part of their time to service. Several non-faith-based institutions that award online MBAs can also be found in the state, including two of its major public universities – the University of Tennessee and the University of Memphis.

Graduates of MBA programs in Tennessee will find a diverse business landscape in the state. Some of its largest employers include delivery service Federal Express, automotive parts retailer Autozone, paper mill International Paper, and automobile manufacturer Nissan, to name a few. One of the fastest-growing companies in the state is Community Health Systems, a Franklin-based healthcare provider, according to CNNMoney. Based on the findings of a business and economic outlook from the University of Tennessee, sectors that are expected to see growth in 2013 include natural resources, mining, and construction; durable goods manufacturing; and professional and business services.
