The George Washington University was founded in 1821 and chartered by Congress. It is located in Washington, D.C. It is the largest institution of higher education in the nation’s capital. The George Washington University School of Business offers an online MBA in Health Care Management and will launch an online MBA in fall 2012.


The George Washington University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The George Washington University School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).


The George Washington University Health Care MBA program is designed for working professionals who want to expand their knowledge of business in health care. Health care MBA candidates take a total of 36 courses or 52.5 credit hours over 24 months. The program is immersed in values, rigorous in theory and experiential in practice. The program is completely online.

The George Washington University online MBA is a three-year program devoted to the core principles of business. The program will include on-campus requirements that bring students and faculty together with key decision makers from industry and government. The school’s online MBA will also include alumni feedback and the chance for students to be mentored by former students who share professional interests.

The two-year MBA in Health Care is taught by faculty with experience in health care and business. It includes all the core classes of a traditional MBA program—23 seven-week courses that explore topics such as business law, strategy, finance, operations and marketing management—as well as 12 elective classes that can be tailored to meet the individual’s professional or personal goals. Students choose from electives such as management of acute care hospitals, physician practice management and managing skilled nursing facilities.


The Master of Business Administration Health Care program seeks candidates who have demonstrated potential for management and leadership.

Admissions criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university in the United States that is accredited by one of the six regional accrediting bodies
  • Three to five years of professional working experience
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) results. The GMAT may be waived for U.S. board certified medical doctors. Proof of current certification is required.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition per credit hour is $1,420 for 2012-2013. The base tuition for the two-year program is $74,550. The base cost does not include additional fees or the cost of textbooks.
